Declan Hercules: Lassen & a Midwest Adventure

I'm in Kindergarten!  I'm loving Mrs. Mitchell's class at Mount George Elementary so far.  My teacher even has complimented me multiple times to Mama and Dada!  I liked my Montessori, but I haven't missed it at all!

Working on my homework at my new desk/work station - while wearing Mama's old scrubs!

We've had another busy month!  The weekend after Grandpa's 80th birthday party, we went to Lassen National Park for the weekend.  We've been seeing so much of California this year:  from Death Valley, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Monterey, San Simeon, SF, Tahoe...that this time we ventured North to Lassen!  We had some amazing hikes, and I hiked 7 miles all by myself!   Bumpass Hell had amazing geothermal features, lunch by the lake was amazing though the water was freezing!!!  Another hike to Kings Falls took us through a lovely meadow and panoramic views of the whole park.  They wouldn't let me climb to the volcano crater, but I'm working up my muscles to do it next time!

Though school is pretty awesome, Mama and Dada thought I could learn a lot on a family vacation as well.  Mama had a conference in Chicago, and she brought all of us along too!  I've been to Chicago before, but it was Keevah Nyx's first time.  The weather was perfect for walking all around the city.  I loved the riverfront and Millennium Park.  The big silver Bean was Keevah's favorite.  While Mama was at her meeting, we went to the Planetarium and the Science & Industry museum as well.  I have so many experiments that I want to do at home now!  We meet Granddad and Boppy for dinner one night, which was fun too.  I got to stay up late every night and had lovely dinners (followed by movie watching on my ipad).

We had 2 days to drive the 6 hours from Chicago to Minneapolis for Mr. Daniel's wedding, so we spent two nights half-way between the two - in Wisconsin Dells.  I had an amazing time, but I'm not so sure about Mama and Dada.  They described it as "Las Vegas for kids" and I'm not sure if that was a compliment or not.  Every lobby had these games that they called an "arcade", which I had never heard of before.  keevah Nyx kept trying to climb inside the machines to get toys.  We spent an entire day at an indoor water park, which is what the town is known for.  I loved every moment, but my parents woke up with stiff joints and whiplash the next day from being tossed all over the place!  They must be getting old!!  They also took me to my very first in person magic show - I loved it!!

Mama and Dada said the whole town was like Wally World - I'm not sure what that is, but all their friends seem to
understand!

Happy siblings@

I took Sister down so many slides!  We had a blast!
Sister Nyx walked like this for awhile in Wisconsin - it is weird - we have no idea why...

After Wisconsin Dells, we finished our drive to Minneapolis.  Mr. Daniel and Ms. Carlijn got married!  The wedding was cool, but the night before was even better. We got to go on a paddle boat ride on the Mississippi River, and saw Bald Eagles along the way!  There was a blue grass band on the back of the boat, and Nyx enjoyed dancing too!  We also enjoyed a nice walk to Minnehaha Falls and wading in the creek. The wedding was a blast at an Art Museum, I had fun dancing before settling in for my movies.  But Keevah Nyx danced the entire night until midnight. Mama kept trying to get her to go to bed, but she kept escaping back to the dance floor where she grabbed anyone available to dance with her.  That girl has been bit by a dancing bug!

All dressed up for the riverboat cruise

We made our way home without incident - we behaved well on the flight.  Now back to school and life in Napa...and ready for the pumpkin patch!!!
